Hidden Colors
This video recommended by a co-worker of mine, gave me new life. I mean the truth in this video just reminded me of how great we are, and how great we can become. There was so much i already knew and yet so much i never knew. I shared this with my son, and i will share it with anyone i know because i believe as many have already said, "if you don't know your history...you will repeat it".
Alot of this i already knew, because i was schooled by a wise and revolutionist Stepfather, and a mother who was raised in Mississippi, but who's father/uncle raised her to respect her self and not let her color or race be deterrent to what she was to become.
In my teen years i was a pageant contestant and remember the day i went out for "Miss Teen Indiana". I wasn't afraid, had no doubts. I had the likes of Jayne Kennedy and Kellee Patterson to follow and indeed i felt i was just as great. That day was an "eyeopener". Here i was, this chocolate girl, this beautiful talented teen, dressed in her formal, vying for her crown in the midst of "white". I believe i was seen, and yet unseen. The disease of racism ran rampant, and even though they let me compete, there will be no victory here and yet that did not detour me, nor did it stop me from being who i aimed to be. I never felt less. Never felt undeserving, nor that i couldn't achieve...and that is what i pass on to my children. You are, you are able, and worthy, because history has shown we can be all that we can be.
There are many lessons to be learned in knowing our own history and many treasures. Some may say it's not all true, or that there is very little truth, but when you look at the grave amount of facts and artifacts no matter how they spin it...we have a right to know appreciate and grow.
Hidden Colors is a groundbreaking documentary about the real and untold history of people of color around the globe. This film will discuss some of the reasons why the contributions of African and aboriginal people have been left out of the pages of history. The film makers traveled around the country talking to scholars, historians, and social commentators who uncovered such amazing facts about things such as: *The original image of Christ *The true story about the Moors *The original people of Asia *The great west African empires *The presence of Africans in America before Columbus *The real reason slavery was ended And much more. Hidden Colors is executive produced by New York Times best selling author/radio host Tariq Nasheed.

That film looks very interesting. Thanks for the recommendation.
This is grand! Thanks for sharing.
I like that this focuses on changing the conversation by understanding the why so that we can change and actually fix the issues instead of constantly pointing them out with out a solution.
Definitely sounds like something I want to see and share
This is very much NEEDED within the community. Methinks many adults would benefit by watching it as well as young people.
BTW: I LOVE that you had the beauty, grace & determination to enter that contest at the time & climate that you did.
This act, to me, was bold, beautiful & yes, heroic!
One.
I can't wait to see this! Thanks!
@commentarybyvalentina - you won't be disappointed. It was very enlightning!
@Mr.Tramuel - yes! I loved the discussion, but i was waiting to hear about solutions and yes, they brung it!
@BluJewel - it's worth looking at!
@Moanerplicity - I so agree, something we can all see and share and discuss. You know it starts with us. And thank you so much. I was so young then, but i had such a great determination to make my stride in this world, no matter my color, this is what i want to pass on not only to my children, but to all of us!
@Daisy - Gurl, i believe this is right up your alley and i also believe that you can even do more in this respect! You are wise, and you seek the truth and you share the truth...this truth is your calling.
