Yes, you made it!

On New Years day, at the strike of midnight, my mom screamed out "she made it!" Yes she made it, but many would not understand the significance of that, like me. You see, if you have been following my blog, not just this year, but years before, you would know how important that statement is. My mom has suffered some devastating losses, first her, firstborn son, and then her husband of 37 years, but wait, a year later a stroke that left her nearly paralyzed. She spent many months in the hospital, and then to have to move from her home, only to be left with the memories of what was her past, and hoping for a bright future.

Yes, she made it! And none of us can take that from her. None of us, not even her children can fully understand the statement, or the tears, because none of us has been through, what she's been through. Bringing in 2012 with family and friends, but especially with my mom was not only beautiful, heartbreaking beautiful but also served as a testament to what we can accomplish when we want and need and are so prayerfully. We can make it! We can achieve! We can overcome the greatest of obstacles even in the face of disparity. We are warriors! We are Chiefs! We are also followers, if we just know who to follow!

I have no fears about this year! And my expectations are what they have always been. To Live, To Rejoice, To Love, To Share, To Give, To be.

Be who you are supposed to be! Not just this year, but every year, every month, every day, every hour, every minute, every second!

Every, every counts...seeds flourish, souls reunite, for the whole!

Yes, you made IT! And i thank God, i made it too!

I feel her on this one. At the strike of midnight, well, even before that, I can recall thinking: WHO KNEW I'd even LIVE to see a year called 2012??? 2012?? Most of my friends died in the 1980s-90s! WTF? I mean, when we were kids, 2012 seemed way, waaayy, waaaaaay into the future. I mean, weren't we supposed to be wearing silver jumpsuits & flying around w/ jetpacks on our backs or some such ish, by now???

Each year as I read, see, ponder the obits of people who passed during the course of the year, I realize how ARROGANT we all are for still BEING here, & for assuming we'll live to see old age when so many die young & pass on long BEFORE us.

So, I'm feelin the sentiments of Ma Dukes, Miz. WE MADE IT, INDEED!

Now let's do something immortal while we'll STILL here! We can DO this! I KNOW we can, Sista Pen!

Happy New Year, Beautiful!

SJ!

One.

To Live, To Rejoice, To Love, To Share, To Give, To be. This will be my blog post for the New Year! and my theme for 2012.

Indeed we are all still standing and neither of us will know the hour when we won't. We can however do all our best to live strong!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Soul Sister. What an amazing testimony! We all need to be reminded of what we have as it all can be gone so quickly. Like your mother, I've suffered some grave losses, crazy life changes, and been left with a semblance of what life was once life, but I came through and endured. We must always remain strong and maintain grace and courage under fire.

Thanks for this inspirational post. God bless.

Never been one to downplay the trials and tribulations of any person, so I embrace the joyous shout!

And yell it with you both... 'We Made it!'

It's a New year, A new day, filled with renewed reasons to embrace the blessings of our Heavenly Father.

I too celebrated "I made it" because not only did I doubt if I would but because I made it pretty okay given the circumstances and the how the year went. I celebrated that with my friends, my family and even as my last blog post for the year. And I feel that not only the person I was coming into 2011 made it, but a better and stronger person for 2012. So a round of applause for everyone who made it.
